Touched down in Singapore Sunday after some holiday travel. I had a great time at home in the snow for Christmas: lots of snowshoeing, cookies, pies, cold air, reading, avoidance of all things Internet related, and relaxing.
I had less of a great time getting to and from: got stuck in the Euro-mess on the way home, with various flights from Paris to Berlin (where I was supposed to hang out with Charlene for a day or two) cancelled. I ended up making my way across France and Germany by train. Oh, and my booked train was cancelled too, so it ended up being a pretty ad hoc train trip: Paris to Strasbourg to Karlsruhe to Manheim to Frankfurt to Berlin. On the way back to Singapore, more of the same: spent a night in the Syracuse airport after a cancelled flight, and then my new flight was delayed four hours by a leaking coffee pot. Sometimes life is pretty comical.
I picked up a nice variety of boat-related stuff while I was at home: some sail repair stuff, various bits and pieces from Home Depot and Lowes, and an Actisense NDC-4 NMEA 0183 multiplexer which I’m looking forward to trying out.
Doug has been at the boat while I’ve been gone; it’s nice to be able to leave it and not worry it’ll sink while I’m away because there’s someone to look after it. There are many, many projects waiting to be tackled. I suspect I’ll struggle to find time for them all for the first part of the year, but they’ll eventually all get done!
One important task: try the new oven sometime soon. Still, I don’t think I’m going to be making anything Christmas-dinner-worthy just yet.
